Types of laser resurfacing.

Ablative laser resurfacing involves removing the outer layer of skin, known as the epidermis, to stimulate the growth of new, healthy skin. The treatment targets the dermis layer, which contains collagen and elastin fibers that help support the skin’s structure. Ablative laser resurfacing can be performed using different types of lasers, including carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium lasers. CO2 lasers are commonly used for more severe skin conditions, while erbium lasers are gentler and less invasive.

Non-ablative laser resurfacing, on the other hand, works by stimulating collagen production in the dermis layer without removing the epidermis. Non-ablative laser resurfacing is typically performed using intense pulsed light (IPL) or fractional laser technology.

Stages of the procedure

At Desert Bloom Skin Care Center, led by Dr. Natalya Borakowski, we take great care to ensure that our patients are comfortable and safe during the laser resurfacing treatment. Here’s what you can expect when you come in for a procedure:

Consultation: In doctor’s office we will discuss your skin concerns and goals for the treatment, as well as examine your skin to determine the best treated area.

Preparation: Before the procedure, we will cleanse and sanitize your skin to prep for the procedure.

Treatment: During the procedure, we will use the Elluminate laser device to target the skin’s imperfections. To ensure maximum comfort, we will use our Zimmer chiller to deliver cold air (down to -30°C) across your skin while the treatment is being performed. This will reduce the sensation of heat felt by you, making it a more comfortable treatment. Additionally, the cold air will reduce the risk of thermal injury to your skin, making for a safer treatment.

Aftercare: After the treatment, we will provide you with instructions on how to care for your skin, including how to manage any redness or swelling. We highly recommend using sunscreen to protect your skin after laser resurfacing as it can be more susceptible to damage from UV rays. You will also be provided with a post-care kit by Epionce to ensure proper healing of your skin with minimal downtime.

Overall, the laser resurfacing treatment at Desert Bloom Skin Care Center is designed to be as comfortable and effective as possible. We take pride in our commitment to patient safety and satisfaction, and we look forward to helping you achieve your skin goals.

Redness and swelling: Patients may experience some redness and ‘crusting’ but there is no social downtime so individuals can immediately return to their busy schedules post treatment. Most individuals do not require numbing before an Elluminate Glow treatment, and post treatment skin may appear to be red a few days.

Changes in skin color: In some cases, the skin may become lighter or darker after the procedure. This change in color is temporary and typically resolves after a few days without any additional treatment.
