Bellafill is an injectable dermal filler composed of 20% PMMA microspheres suspended in 80% bovine collagen gel. Unlike temporary injectables that dissolve within months, Bellafill works in two phases: the collagen carrier provides immediate volume, while the PMMA microspheres act as a permanent scaffold stimulating your own collagen production.

So is Bellafill permanent? Let’s be clear: the PMMA microspheres themselves persist indefinitely — they are non-resorbable. But the aesthetic result evolves as natural aging continues. As patients age, facial volume shifts, skin quality changes, and gravity does not pause. That is why “semi-permanent” is more accurate than “permanent.” Touch-ups are not commonly needed, though individual results vary because the PMMA component creates a permanent scaffold stimulating collagen. Some patients may choose to repeat the procedure on the same treated area — usually temples or hands — after approximately 12 months, once the bovine collagen carrier has been fully absorbed and replaced by natural collagen, helping to lift and improve the face over time.

Is Bellafill Safe? What to Know Before Treatment

Common side effects of Bellafill injections include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site, typically resolving within days. Most patients resume normal activities within 1–2 days — a key advantage of this non-surgical procedure. The post-approval study reported a granuloma incidence of 1.7% over five years; the broader surveillance data showed a rate of 0.002% per syringe.
