Weak chin

A weak chin, also known as a recessed chin, is a condition where the chin appears smaller or less pronounced in relation to the rest of the face. This can result in a lack of facial balance and symmetry, and can also cause problems with bite and dental function. A weak chin can be corrected with cosmetic procedures.

A Recessed or Weak Chin

A weak or recessed chin — one that doesn’t project forward enough relative to the lips and nose — can make the profile look imbalanced and the neck appear shorter. Non-surgical chin augmentation with filler is one of the most precise ways to improve profile balance, adding projection and definition without implants or surgical recovery.

Our Approach

Dr. Borakowski approaches chin augmentation as a proportional decision — evaluating the chin in relation to your lips, nose, and jaw before placing any product. The goal is facial balance, not just forward projection.

What Causes a Weak Chin?

Chin projection is largely determined by bone structure — specifically the position of the mandibular symphysis relative to the rest of the face. A naturally retruded chin places the chin tip too far behind the lips and lower face on profile, creating the characteristic weak or “pushed back” appearance.

Volume loss with age also contributes. As the soft tissue over the chin thins and bone density decreases, a chin that once had adequate projection can appear weaker over time. In both cases — structural and age-related — non-surgical filler offers an effective correction path that surgery traditionally reserved for itself.

Best Treatments for Chin Augmentation

The right chin treatment depends on the amount of projection needed, whether reversibility matters, and whether the concern is isolated to the chin or part of a broader facial balance plan. Most patients start with reversible HA filler to establish their ideal result before considering longer-duration options.

Jawline Filler (Chin Augmentation)

Hyaluronic acid filler placed at the chin tip and lateral borders is the usual first-line treatment for a weak chin. It directly projects the chin forward, adds vertical height if needed, and sharpens the chin’s shape — all in a single appointment with no downtime and results you can refine over time. Because it’s reversible, it’s the most appropriate first step for any patient new to chin augmentation. Learn more about Jawline Filler →

Radiesse

Patients who’ve confirmed they love their chin filler result and want it to last longer are often good candidates for Radiesse. Radiesse is best used after you’ve already confirmed the amount of chin projection you like and want more longevity than standard HA filler. Learn more about Radiesse →

Bellafill

For patients who want a near-permanent structural solution, Bellafill’s PMMA microsphere technology creates a lasting collagen scaffold at the chin. This is a longer-commitment option — appropriate for patients who have refined their aesthetic goals through earlier filler treatments and are confident in the result they want. Unlike HA filler, Bellafill is not dissolvable, so it belongs later in a patient’s treatment journey. Learn more about Bellafill →

Aesthetic Facial Balancing

When a weak chin is part of a larger facial proportion concern — the profile looks imbalanced, the lip-to-chin ratio is off, or multiple zones need correction — addressing the chin in isolation often produces a result that looks improved but not harmonious. Facial balancing coordinates chin projection with jawline definition, midface volume, and other structural factors in a single planned session. Learn more about Aesthetic Facial Balancing →

Some patients also present with lower face laxity or early jowling alongside a recessed chin — in these cases, PDO Thread Lift may be incorporated to restore jawline definition alongside chin projection. The Non-Surgical Facelift package can combine these elements when multiple lower face concerns are addressed together.

Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Augmentation?

If your chin looks small or pushed back relative to your lips and nose — whether that’s always been the case or has developed with age — non-surgical chin augmentation can make a meaningful difference. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations about the degree of projection achievable without surgery and are open to a consultation that evaluates the full facial profile. Dr. Borakowski will assess chin projection relative to the lips and nose, your soft-tissue support, and your goals before recommending a treatment plan.

How Much Does Chin Augmentation Cost?

Chin filler pricing depends on the product used and the number of syringes required for your anatomy. HA filler, Radiesse, and Bellafill are priced differently and offer different longevity trade-offs. Combination plans that include jawline definition or balancing across multiple areas are quoted per treatment during the consultation. We’ll walk through all options and costs at your appointment in Scottsdale.
