Skin Care Built for How Male Skin Actually Behaves

Direct treatments, refreshed results, zero spa language.

This page is for the patient who wants to look sharp and rested — not different. Male skin is thicker, oilier, and carries more cumulative sun damage than female skin, which is why the same treatment performed the same way often produces a different result. At Desert Bloom Skincare, Dr. Natalya Borakowski, NMD calibrates technique and dosing for male facial anatomy.

No package sell, no transformation talk. A clear plan, real downtime numbers, and the option to start with one treatment instead of three.

Why male skin needs a different approach

Thicker Dermis, More Oil, More Sun Damage

Middle-aged man's facial skin showing sun exposure and aging — thicker dermis and more sun damage typical of male skin

Male skin is roughly 25 percent thicker than female skin, produces more sebum, and tends toward larger pores and more congestion. Daily shaving compounds barrier irritation and feeds ingrown hairs. Historically lower sunscreen use leaves deeper photodamage by the 40s — which is why a treatment plan that ignores those differences rarely lands where the patient wants it.

What Most Men Start With

FAQ

Common Questions From Men

Is Botox for men different than for women?
Same product, different technique. Men's Botox preserves the natural masculine brow — flat and strong, not arched. Dosing runs higher because male facial muscles are larger and stronger. Dr. Borakowski adjusts placement and units for male anatomy so the result reads as well-rested, not done.
Can I get treatments and still go to work the next day?
For most: yes. Botox and Dysport have no required downtime. Jawline filler typically involves 24 hours of mild swelling or tenderness. Microneedling produces 24–48 hours of redness similar to a mild sunburn. Resurfacing lasers are the only category that usually require a weekend off.
What about the beard area — can I shave after a treatment?
For injectables (Botox, filler): shave as usual the next morning. For microneedling and chemical peels: skip shaving for 48–72 hours over treated zones to let the surface heal. Laser hair removal directly targets the beard root and is a separate planning conversation if you want to keep, thin, or remove facial hair.
Will it look like I had something done?
The goal here is the opposite of that. Dr. Borakowski's approach is calibrated for the result to read as a healthier, well-rested version of you — not a different person. Most men's plans intentionally under-correct rather than chase an obvious change.
What if I have darker skin?
Fitzpatrick IV–VI patients are treated routinely. For laser, the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength is the primary route — Alexandrite and ablative Erbium are not first-line for darker skin tones. Injectables, microneedling, and most peels work across all skin types with settings matched at consultation.
Do I really need a routine, or can I just come in for treatments?
Honest answer: in-office treatments do the heavy lifting; at-home routine protects the result between visits. At minimum — a cleanser matched to your skin type, a moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF daily. Anything beyond that is layered based on what you actually want to address.

How a consult works

Thirty Minutes, A Clear Plan, No Pressure

Dr. Natalya Borakowski in a calm patient consultation at Desert Bloom — a clear plan, no pressure

The first visit is a 30-minute complimentary consultation with Dr. Borakowski. She assesses your skin, asks about your goals, and recommends a protocol — not a package. You leave knowing which treatments match your concerns, what realistic results look like, the downtime involved, and what it costs. Most men decide same-day; some take time. Either is fine.

“Male skin is structurally different — thicker, more sebum, more sun damage from years without sunscreen. I match the technique to how the tissue actually behaves, not to a generic protocol. Your face should still look like your face.”
