Why does Mounjaro change the shape of your face?

Your face has deep and superficial fat compartments that act as scaffolding under the skin. When you lose weight across your body, these compartments shrink as well. If they shrink faster than your skin can adapt, the skin loses its support and starts to sag. The facial change comes from the speed of the fat loss.

Can you have facial treatments if you have type 2 diabetes?

Many people who take Mounjaro are living with type 2 diabetes. If you take tirzepatide, your diabetes is most likely well controlled, so it is usually not a concern for facial treatment. Healing can take longer in patients whose diabetes is not controlled.

At your consultation, tell Dr. Borakowski that you have diabetes and bring a list of every medication you take, including Mounjaro. Mention blood thinners in particular. PRP Biofiller, for example, may not be suitable if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder.

Timing matters as well. Dr. Borakowski prefers your weight to be stable for about 3–6 months before significant filler work. Filler placed in a face that is still losing fat can shift or look wrong as the fat keeps receding.

How can you care for your skin while taking Mounjaro?

You cannot choose where your body loses fat, but you can help your skin cope. Ask your prescriber about a gradual pace of weight loss, and ask your diabetes care team how to fit enough protein and water into your eating plan. Protein supports collagen and muscle.

Surgery can be the better choice for a lot of loose skin
